Effettivamente quest’anno non si può trovare un filo conduttore che ci aiuti a legare fra loro i titoli distribuiti fra le diverse categorie. Abbiamo film molto differenti fra loro; come spesso accade si pesca soprattutto fra i titoli drammatici piuttosto che fra quelli delle commedie. Oltre 50 i film che concorrono nelle 24 categorie; ciò è possibile anche grazie all’assenza di un titolo che fa incetta di un gran numero di candidature. Dreamgirls ne raccoglie 8 ma lascia per strada quelle più importanti come regia e film dell’anno; Babel di Alejandro González Iñárritu è il vero favorito, con 7 candidature e tutte importanti, tra cui regia, film, montaggio, sceneggiatura originale e musica; The Departed di Martin Scorsese raccoglie 5 candidature ma tutte forti, come regia, film, sceneggiatura e montaggio. A parte l’outsider Guillermo del Toro che con il suo Il labirinto del Fauno raccoglie ben 6 nominations, nonostante sia un film straniero, ricordiamo Little Miss Sunshine che partendo dal basso col passaparola si è conquistato quello che probabilmente è il massimo risultato possibile per una commedia statunitense, ossia fregiarsi di essere nella cinquina dei migliori film dell’anno. La sfida tutta al femminile tra Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep (alla sua 14esima nominations, più che un record, una costante) e Judi Dench pare riproporre una lotta tra mostri sacri della performance attoriale contro le giovani e giovanissime attrici che spesso riempiono col loro glamour da ultima generazione le categorie e il red carpet. L’Italia non è entrata nella cinquina del miglior film straniero con il candidato Nuovomondo, ma ha già un vincitore annunciato: Ennio Morricone riceverà il suo oscar alla carriera dopo aver avuto 6 nominations agli oscar e mai un premio (l’ultima volta è stato per lo score di Malena). Un’altra chance italiana è rappresentata dai truccatori Aldo Signoretti e Vittorio Sodano che hanno svolto un lavoro sopraffino per dare corpo alle tribù Maya di Apocalypto. Non mancano le eccentricità: Dreamgirls ha avuto ben 3 candidature nella medesima categoria, quella per la miglior canzone; Peter O’Toole che aveva ricevuto l’Oscar alla carriera nel 2003 è rispuntato nella sezione miglior attore maschile. La vera sfida tra titani di Hollywood non poteva mancare neppure quest’anno: avremo Eastwood VS Scorsese. Si contenderanno l’oscar per la miglior regia. Nel 2005 erano di nuovo rivali e vinse Eastwood per Million Dollar Baby, ma è pur vero che Scorsese non ha mai vinto una statuetta dal 1981, anno della sua prima candidatura agli Oscars. Ne escono sicuramente vincitori i messicani: la triade di film diretti rispettivamente dal terzetto Del Toro-Cuaron- Iñárritu racimola 16 nominations. Anche noi italiani siamo rappresentati da un regista trapiantato ad Hollywood, il nostro Gabriele Muccino, sebbene non abbia raccolto (ancora) una nomination in prima persona, con il suo film La ricerca della felicità ha permesso a Will Smith, anche produttore della pellicola, di accaparrarsi la sua seconda nomination come miglior attore protagonista.
